Progress Report: September 2017

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a progress report. Reports are one of my favorite things. It’s fun taking a step back and realizing the small wins are starting to become more prominent, and things are starting to look like a real business and not just a side hobby. Ok, let’s be honest, I’m still inside hobby zone….but someday….someday.

Just a few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending my first blogging conference! It was the most amazing week ever! I felt like I was in a room full of ‘my people.' I came home flooded with ideas and inspiration; I cannot wait to share with you guys. All in due time, my pretties!

 

Since I’ve been home, I’ve been working my booty off to get systems in place so I can help you better! I’ve been working on Pinterest strategies, so you guys can find patterns easier.  I’ve also been planning so I’m not flying by the seat of my pants or just missing weeks altogether because of well life.

 

As I’ve said in the past, most of the income reports I’ve found have all been from people who have been blogging for several months and are already making money. After reading several articles, most of those people mention how much hard work and free labor they put into their blog in the initial months before it starts paying off. Boy were they right!

 

My last progress report was done in May 2017, you can check that our here. So here’s how things have been going through the summer, which everyone in the blogging world considers a slow time. I’m posting this to hold myself accountable to keep at it and to not give up! So, I’m doing it scared!

Goals: 

A friend of mine recommended a time management book recently. It has changed my life completely. The 12 Week Year by Brian Moran has completely changed my outlook on goal setting and how I plan out my blog content. I highly recommend this book! 

My goals for the summer months were simple. Consistently write one post a week and to set dedicated work hours for blogging.

 

What I worked on this month:

I'm finally starting to get the 'tech stuff' figured out! Or at least I know who to ask or what to google at this point. That is making my life so much easier! I wouldn't say the beginning tech stuff is hard it's just very timing consuming and can be draining. I think I've finally settled on a blog theme, for what seems like the millionth time. It's here to stay!

I'm starting to figure out Pinterest from the business standpoint. I've always been an avid Pinterest user, so it's my understanding that pinning for business means you basically just have to pin 50 times more than a normal human and do that every single day! Just kidding...kinda...

 

What didn’t work this month:

Squirrels. It feels like I have to do so many things right now, that sometimes nothing ends up done at all. Setting a better schedule and trying to avoid the 'shiny object syndrome' I think will help me stay more consistent and get more content out to you guys faster!

 

Goals for next month:

Time Management: After taking a short break from blogging, I realized I needed to get better with my time management. Home is one major distraction! I set a schedule for myself to work in short time blocks after my little one goes to bed every night or when she is visiting the grandparents. By having a dedicated schedule, I think I can manage all the tasks easier.

Post Consistently: My goal is to make sure to post consistently.  I’m still getting a feel for whether posting once or twice a week is better. However, making sure I’m writing something every day is essential.

Newsletter: I also plan to get my email newsletter set-up soon.  Look for that in your inbox!

Income Strategy:

Shop: I'd like to get my shop set-up for the holiday season. Now is the perfect time to give me the extra push to get it done.

Affiliate Marketing: Affiliates are starting to show promise. I can't wait to see what's in store next.
